Built in 1889 by Jasper & Mary Avery, Fernside remained in the same family until November 2007 when great grandaughter, Beth Lavertue died at the age of 88. After her passing, the old inn was fully restored and brought back to its original country beauty. Beth had many stories to tell about growing up around her great grandmother, Gram (Mary) Avery and grandmother, Rose Avery. They were hard working women who tended to the home and were great cooks using fresh foods from the garden and bartering for milk or eggs and other sundries as needed. The guests at Fernside were well fed. Life was much simpler, but was much harder than we imagine. |
